8/13 Bolinas chrome hunt

Thanks for arranging to meet up Geoff. Nice to meet you Travis, Keith (LA), John, and Kevin (simplycook?). This was my first ocean salmon trip on a kayak and it didn't disappoint. I ended up catching three salmon, boated one 12 incher, lost two at the surface (likely due to long leader-lesson learned), and had lots of bites. Could have been kingfish as well. Caught about 4 of those when I'd get too close to the bottom. Thanks for the pointers Keith, and for the surf launch advice. Smooth launch and landing. Hope this bite keeps up, I'd like to get sick one day this week.

It was a little rough out in 45 fow due to winds all morning.

Are Kingfish any good? Aren't they related to white sea bass?

I started my day with seeing chet and other NCKA guy with the crazy rigged out Hobie after checking the Brighton launch to see surf crashing on the concrete. Chet talked me through some of the wharf rd. launch quirks and we were off. There were about 5,000,000 private and charter pb's out there so I guess the word got out that the bite was good. I started with a 12in. salmon and a few kingfish or whatever they are called. I then went about 3 hours without a strike until the Sundance told me to pull up into 25fow. I immediately started hooking into shakers. I caught 3 shakers in about 15 mins. Now I finally get a better fish on, it fought pretty hard for its size and took a couple little runs but it was barely a keeper by a half inch or so. I decided I had enough and left with my baby. I got to do a little kayak surfing on my way in which was pretty fun. I THEN DROVE ALL THE WAY TO NICASIO RESERVOIR BEFORE I REALIZED MY NEW HOBIE WASNT EVEN STRAPPED TO MY RACK. I about had a heart attack when I noticed that. If that thing wouldve flown off my rack I would be completely ruined. I cant believe it stayed on there that long actually. Overall it was a nice day on the water and I got to come home with some chrome.

that's crazy that the kayak wasn't strapped!! with all the curve that road has, I'm shock it didn't fall off but at any rate, glad you found out before hitting the freeway!!

Wow that fish is red!! We got a call to go south but the bite was done by the time we got there. I managed to scrape up a few fish before the wind picked up, but fishing was slower today. Done for the week.

I was going to mug the baby face Salmon assassin on shore if JT and I went home empty. LoL. There is always an underlying envy and jealously when you fish around him. "Congrats Chet. Wow those are amazing fish!" underlying meaning is "dude you have single handily wiped the chrome population off the face of the Earth. The entire Commercial fleet does less damage. I hate you so much right now. LOL!"

They hate us cause they ain't us.

Not me brother, I just go home and scream at the sky, "WHY ... WHY ... WHY ..... WHY NOT ME ...."  then I cry for days until my wife had it, at which time she would kick me out of the house so I can go fishing... she is a trooper!

How did the hunt go? thinking about giving it a try on Wed/tomorrow, any tips? What depth are you hooking them at?
