Hey folks,
How goes?  So I just happened to be surfing CL ads :), and saw there's a Hobie Mirage Tandem for $1800 in Lake County.  Includes paddles, seats, doesn't look too beat up to my amateur eyes. Looking closer the model looks like it has the basics.
Here's the ad:

Is that a good price? Would that be a good model & year to buy?  Plan would be as family kayak, and sometime fishing kayak. Could be one of the NCKA folks selling it, too hehe.

Anyway, thanks in advance for the feedback!

That appears to be an older model and I would say it's overpriced. Search for info on Hobie model year upgrades. Just about every new year's models get some kind of upgrade.

Appears that at least one fin mast needs to be replaced.

Ahh thanks for the responses!
Salty: I wouldn't know how old that is, but what would you pay for something like it?
SOMA: I had to look up what a fin mast is... heh.

I'm wondering if it makes sense to get an older base model, at a reasonable price, then upgrade parts slowly. Of course maybe it's better to get it all at once, but, trying to keep the costs in-line... :)

I don't have any experience with that specific model, but as others have said, it's got to be old (based on the rudder and a few other things). And that's a pretty hefty price, so I'd recommend avoiding it.  If you do look at it, the last 2 digits of the serial number should be the model year---at least that's true of newer Hobies.
