so lets say hypothetically you are a poor college student that wants to fish off his longboard surfboard: ) Preferably you would like a break down system to fit in a back pack. You are targeting rockfish, maybe a ling. where would you go in the area? what would your setup be? thanks for any help. looks like a great forum

All along West cliff from NB's to Indicators at the Lane.  Shrimp fly jigs, large white sabiki , fishtraps, mega baits.  Pothole, work edge of kelp beds, go out on West Cliff from 30-120 FOW.  You will catch fish.

One suggestion:  Get a kayak.   Waaaaay more comfy LOL

I fished with a guy on a longboard right off the lighthouse.  2pc pole and a small assortment of swimbaits all fit in his backpack, Tip stuck out and it wasn't a big deal but your gear will take a beating as it will be heavily exposed to the salt.  There's alot of low cost 2 pc mooching rods out there in the 8' 15 lb class.  Match it with an ABU GARCIA 5000-6000 series reel and you'll be pretty much set.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker
