I heard a person (your boss?) ont he radio last night. She said that SCWD does not get any water from the snowpack but gets it from the Russian. Isn't the Russian fed by snow pack???

There's not much, if any, snowfall in the Russian River drainage, i.e. Coastal Range.  That would all be rainfall.  It really is a depressing story.  Front page of the Chronicle this morning - 2 stories on the water shortfall in California for the upcoming summer.   :smt009

Just finished a big press conference...might need a little fishing therapy this evening.

Essentially there is no snow melt in the Russian, although a small amount of the flow diverted from the Eel is from snow.

There is a dry year criteria for flow, but the way our water rights are set up we aren't able to make that call until May, and at that point in years like this year its already to late.  We need to take significant action now, not in a few months.

There are three things at play that are driving the scenario:
1) a really dry spring
2) reduced inflow from the Eel
3) a broken diversion from the Eel

Any of theses thing individually or in a pair we can handle, but all three together are a "perfect storm".  I am personally fine with the Eel keeping more of its water, we just need to change the equation on this side to be reflective of changes in Eel River inflows and it will be a win for both basins.

Not sure whats gonna happen, but its gonna be dramatic.
