Hey all,

West Marine has the Lowrance Hook4 ff/gps on sale for 199.00 Says it retails for 349. Seems like a stellar deal. Looking to upgrade to a unit with GPS but want something small. Who has one and what do you like or Don't like about it. I have til 4/16(sale ends)to make up my mind. Also, the transducer looks like it will fit into the transducer cutout at the bottom of the rear scupper hole on my OK 13. Thoughts?

I have the Lowrance Hook 4 and i like it a lot. It has everything you generally need to find fish and
the GPS option is always good to have...especially if you go out in fog, or ... go kayak crabbing.
The battery life is good too since it's a smaller unit and a 12v brick battery should last about 1.5-2 days of fishing.
My big grip with the lowrance units is that they have fog that builds inside the screen. It eventually goes away after a few hours but it's just annoying. This has happened on several units that I have owned.  Good luck! :smt001

I just received a hook four as a replacement for the elite 4 which is essentially the same Ff. My elite four broke after getting splashed with water. If I were you I would buy the two year protection plan.

Besides the shitty waterproofing it always worked well for me.

I just got the 4x with the downscan, its pretty clear on both downscan and  chirp, id recomend the extra money for the downscan if you spend time in the rocks.

But mine did fog up after leaving it out in a light shower for a day but went away after 20 minutes of use.

Does anyone have experience with the  difference between the Nautic insight vs lake insight pro mapping? do both give ocean mapping?

Does anyone else have a problem with a FF that is foggy or broken after getting splashed or rinsed?

I expect it to be capable of being immersed, stuff happens out there.

Nautic only gives ocean,  not sure if the lake is only lake though.

Same unit, with cover, great price. Lake does not give ocean, although the pre-installed base maps for ocean are pretty good. I really like the lake maps, if you fish off shore fresh water, worth the $. I'm not a big fan of the ocean chips, I believe they are for long range guys. I utilize the Insight genesis feature for that  :smt002

As for the fogging issues, I've never had this happen even after a couple spills. I also never leave my FF out all night.

My thoughts are www.russellmarineproducts.com has a Lowrance hook 7 bundle for $379.99 I would jump on it.

Just purchased a hook 4 with the sun cover and lake insight a few days ago on gander mountain. $170 shipped was a good deal to me.

I got my hook 4 a few months ago and love the dual channel screen. Got it for a steal at Cabela's since I had a bunch of points on my account plus it also went on sale for less than $200.00. I have been using it every time I head out and am learning its nuances. IT did help me locate crappie schools that most folks could not see so it did its job real well.
