I started this weekend off by buying the boat above on Friday; was stoked to try it out the next morning. Didn't get a chance to put any water inside to check for leaks when I bought it, but did before we were going to head out. Glad I did.

That boat is shot. Been repaired with touch'n'go foam behind the seat & the nose, has a forward-scupper-hole crack that's unrepaired, but the kicker is the adhesive between the two halves of the boat is failing and it leaks like a sieve, to the point where not only water, but sand and shell pieces were coming out.

Super nice seller (he let me return it, gave a no-questions asked full refund). I honestly think he didn't know what was wrong with it, and I suspect he'd let you know what's wrong with it if you got in touch, but I thought I'd post here to save you the trouble just in case any of you were thinking about picking this up.

If one were really good at repair and wanted to get this, then maybe, but only for small freshwater. I also saw some discoloring inside the hull of the plastic. Kinda reminded me of how some electronics' cases I work with will yellow and go brittle from UV light/ heat (this was under the tupperware hatch, not sure if Hurricane's plastic will do this or not. Oh, and the drainplug's plastic is powdering.

That is all.

It looks great in the pictures. I had the 12' version of that kayak, and it seemed to hold up well, so it's surprising that thing is so roached. I wonder what the owner could have done to it...

I thought the same thing! Was super excited about it. Have been looking for a cheap barge-width boat for my wife, and this would have been perfect.

It looked very well loved to begin with, and he said he'd taken a really bad landing involving rocks. That pushed in the nose and put a hole behind the seat. The unrepaired mid-ship crack at the scupper hole looked more like someone put a lot of weight on it and it gave way. The boat did look like it was well made to begin with and shouldn't have died like this.

I've been told they're not really that barge-y, and have a tendency to roll due to the round hull design.  The newer hurricanes are much better paddling wise, although not "cheap".

Sounds like it's ready for the scrap pile.

It's a shame he reposts it without mentioning the damage.

Hopefully some poor newbie doesn't get screwed on it.

The ad says ready for fishing. This is what he said when I asked him if it leaked.

I'd say it's condition is "good used" and it does have some leakage midship at the seam.  This was discovered by the first buyer who hosed it from the inside out.  This is the reason for its return and reposting of ad(at a lower price).  I was unaware of this issue as having previously used the Kayak many times without issue.  The Kayak has had some recent repair (I'll attach photos) the nose hit a rock and the created dimple was professionally patched with an epoxy and fiberglass wet layup.  Also repaired was some stress cracks on the deck around the center tube vertical drain tube, the other center drain tube has cracks but not significant enough to repair.  The repairman did say the seam joint would need to be caulked soon but it wasn't an urgency.  I know now he was completely right about his assessment.  Thanks for asking.

So I sent him a reply.

Your ad says ready for fishing. I'm asking you to consider what might happen if some unsuspecting inexperienced person takes the kayak on the water maybe without a life vest. You could contribute to something that could never be undone. Maybe it should be destroyed before anything really bad happens.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Even better it went back!
