So, looking into getting my first welder to mess with.
About a $500 budget
Was thinking
https://www.amazon.com/Hobart-500559-Handler-Wire-Welder/dp/B009X43F38
Or
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002R8B75U/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1489373212&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=lincoln+welder&dpPl=1&dpID=41B6fuzi4KL&ref=plSrch
Or...?????
I'll be doing mostly trailer frame, truck racks...
any input would be awesome
Thanks
Patt.S

Personally, I'd hold out for a 220v machine.  Been my experience that the 120v units just can't put out on the bigger jobs.  You can always turn it down, but turning up is an issue I've had with the small units.

Any machine that runs on 110 will need to use Flux core. If you want to mig, gad needed, the 110 machines will be maxed outfor that type of work. Anything that goes on a public roadway must, IMHO, have good/deep penitration.Flux core is like stick/arc welding, but in wire feed. Mig is a shallow colder process with less penitration. I have a miller 211, it works off 110 or 220, and mig or FC. However, it's more than $500. Keep an eye on CL???

The issue with welders is it's total duty cycle is less then it's output . so a welder that says it's a 180 can weld at 180 amps for 60% of its duty cycle wichbis a 10 min span so you need to buy a higher quality welder wich coast more money to keep amp and voltage constant to weld through your trailer frame and you can't look at what is says it can do basically what ever the number the welder calls it self it actually welds weaker than that number

Flux core welds ugly but is hoter to weld thiker metal gas on a MIG or gmaw is easy to learn so save up a little more look for a big welder like 210. To 255 or forget welding frames and start with a 110volt lincon 140 for about 400 bucks to get you welding sheet metal and hand rails a quality welder is heavy not a cheap harborfraite welder the small boxy welders are 110-180 and then the tall attached to a cart welders are bigger 220 volt 200 plus's amp welders  welders are one tool you just can't go cheap with but they never go bad if they are treated rite

Sweet, looks like I'll be dropping more cash then. I was hopping for the 500$ budget cause I know I would have to get bunch of shit to go with it (must my tools are for wood)... but i guess I'll just get the bigger welder first.. what would u  recommend around $1000.

If you want to save some coin.  Look into the Everlast welder company.  They are local and their products are good.  I have a 250 amp multi process tig setup from them and it has been flawless for 3 years.
