IMO - if prepared properly leopards are fairly good eating. I've had them BBQ'd, grilled, and as fish & chips.

The key being to bleed them quickly and get it on ice, right?

Yup. An overnight soak in milk or lemon water also helps.

Another thing I've noticed is that some sharks already smell really bad when you catch them. I would not bother keeping one that wreaked like amonia when caught.

I think I might just go talk to the guy about what he is doing.  Maybe he can just catch and release.

i once speared a 5 foot leopard shark in monterey and took it home to clean and eat. i opened it up and it had 6 babies which were near birth and i felt like sh*t. i gave the babies in alcohol to a school's science department and they used them to show the kids. I still felt bad.

i promised to never take another one of those again.

cleaning the shark was a different story. my friend and i were cleaning it and steaking it all the while even with no head this shark was twisting and flopping about freaking my friend out. we had to finish the job and it was freaky. that thing would not die. even the little steaks would pulsate sitting on the counter top. they had a mind of their own.

i had never seen anything like it.

my wife marinated them and we ate them. they were ok but the cleaning and seeing the babies really hit home deep. i will never take a shark again.

not to mention it wore my knife down like i was cutting a cement block. that knife never got its edge back no matter how i tried to sharpen it.

I would feel terrible as well.  I don't know if I would have had the foresight to preserve them for a school tho---kudos to you on that  in fact that gives me an idea for a new thread...

I would feel terrible as well.  I don't know if I would have had the foresight to preserve them for a school tho---kudos to you on that  in fact that gives me an idea for a new thread...

oh man, im not that bright! it was my wife who was watching kids that gave me the idea. the two little girls came over and saw the shark and the babies and were real interested in them. i packed em in jars and they took em home. then their mom told us how the school thought it was so cool for their science class.

if i had my wits about me i should have filmed the shark dancing as i sawed away with a knife, it was like a horror movie as my friend was jumpin. man, it was bad. i had to finish it though. i hated each second of it.

what was weird was before i speared it i watched it as it swam circles under me and how clear the water was. these were the same fish i swam with at pebble beach diving down and laying on the sand with them, pulling their tails and stuff. terrible man.

i never knew even the steaks would ever be be able to move the way they did. it was like a stephen king novel.

i think i need counseling now.

I don't eat them,they don't eat me. I am an opportunistic eater and sharks are the only thing I won't eat.
