Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm actually based in San Jose but open to fishing anywhere in the general area. I'm relatively new to kayak fishing so looking to give both fresh and sea water a try. If anyone has any recommendations would sure appreciate it.

welcome!  im also in san jose.  if youre into doing saltwater, i  frequent santa cruz, hmb, pacifica, monterey areas.  all within reasonable travel for day trip.
