HD C6 tranny won't go into park. I can force the shifter into park, but the tranny isn't in park. If I slam it into park it will start and I can remove the key.
If I go under and manually move the linkage it goes no farther than reverse.
Everything worked fine until I replaced the tranny mount and cleaned the sludge off the linkage. I supported the tranny, transfer case and removed the cross member when I replaced the mount. Put everything back together the same as it came off.
Right now Rev, N, Drive, L2 and L1 work fine. Took it for a spin to verify that.
Pulled into the gas station, slammed it into park and it started to roll. That's how I know it isn't engaging and I never had any problems with it before.
Even if I moved the linkage while cleaning it off shouldn't the shifter engage where it should be and bring it all back to normal?
I'm baffled.
I'll take it in to the shop if I can't get it figured out today, but I'd rather try to get it figured out.

PM me if you have any real thoughts.
Thanks.

My "real thought" is you were lucky to have the issue at a gas station with fairly flat ground I presume.

I am pretty sure it's the "fetzer valve" and "ball bearings....it's all ball bearings these days".

My Chevy 1500 work truck did the same thing 2 yrs ago.  The cable was wore out.  I fucked with the damn cable for a day or too. Had to use the emergency brake to park it haha!  I was lazy and had Jiffy Lube in folsom do it for like 150 bucks while I went and ate lunch =)

Thought about that. But wouldn't it still shift into park at the steering column? The stop just wouldn't engage the paw.
just to look at that will cost me $30-$40 when you consider a new gasket and fluid..and time, a lot of time sine it would be my first rodeo.
The more I think about it the more I am ready to plop down some cash and have it done right.
The more I think about it the more I think it's an easy fix, I just don't know what the fix is. Better safe than sorry I guess.

If the parking pawl is broken off or fell out of its holding mech, it could be jamming up the shift linkage. Clearly it's not engaging to stop the rolling. Either way, NEVER clean the gunk off! That's what holds all the working things together!
Warning! Retiree; Knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it.

Have you tried manually putting the linkage on the transmission in park  with the cable/linkage completely disconnected from the transmission. That will tell you if its internal or just out of kilter in between.

I'm with mojo.  If it worked before you took it apart.  It will work again.  Disconnect all linkage and put in park by hand.  You might have put a rod in upside down or backwards.  Good luck.

Start it in neutral and use your park brake.

Took a little time off work this morning. Drove home, picked up the motorhome and took it to ************* on Forni and Briw road.
I went in the day before and talked to them so they were expecting me.
Becky took some time off work to come and get me and take me back home to get my truck so I could get back to work. A PITA.
Swung by after work and they hadn’t even looked at it. Asked me if I could bring it by the next day and I said no, I already took off work to drop it off and cannot do it again tomorrow.
They said they’d look at it and call me in a little bit.
I got a call at home and they said the problem was in the transmission, not in the linkage and they’d have to drop the pan to get a closer look.
I swung by Automotive Excellence and talked to them. They don’t do transmissions but said things didn’t sound right by it not going into park just by changing the tranny mount...unless...it was some freak coincidence.
So I swung by Placerville Transmission. He said drop it off and he’d look at it probably tomorrow.
I get the MH from *************, take it to Placerville transmission. Within 5 minutes of parking it the owner was under looking at things.
I’m under with him only because I want to see what’s going on too and it’s a chance to learn something.
Next thing I know we are dropping the pan and looking at the inside.
The parking pawl actuating rod was snapped in half.
He goes into the back, grabs one off another tranny and we are putting it in.
We had about 15 minutes until completion, but he told me he had to pick up his girls at 6:30 and it was 6:15.
We washed up, he gave me a ride home and said it will be done tomorrow.
Only have to snap the linkage back together and add new fluid...done.
************** had it for almost 7 hours and couldn’t give me the time of day. And there was zero sense of urgency on their part whatsoever.
I’m on vacation all next week and was hoping to take the MH to Lake Sonoma for a couple of days. Now it seems possible.
And it was just a coincidence that it happened the same time I replaced the mount.....my luck.
Placerville Transmission gets my business from now on.

Glad to here your going to be "on the road again" there's only one transmission shop I'll ever use in Oregon have been for automatic transmission for over 20 year's  manuals I'll rip apart on my own.
