Nice Jeff, if you hit Shasta this week make sure you and Ben log into our practice Shasta Bass Kayak Angler Tournament, so we can scrutinize and judge the first fish that kayak catches!

You guys call that the dark side, more like the gray side, 2 of my homies went to the dark side (off shore jet skis). As a guy that usually carries  waaaaaaaaaaay to much shit on my kayak I'd say the less room might be a blessing. Only takes one jig to limit out if you don't loose it to the rocks or a monster break off, come to think of it I have limited a few times on one shrimp fly/ lancer 4 oz gold dog jig.

Thanks everyone, I can't wait to get it in the water. Scurvy, my old boat is a predator 13 so it is lighter, not much lol, and the square hatch is going in as soon as Beenfishin gets back from Hawaii !!!! I hope to get used to having less space, that will be the hardest transition.
Jeff
As mentioned before I'm also considering switching and my current boat is also Predator 13 (I got a brand new one a few months back as a warranty exchage :smt001). When you have a chance, I would love to hear about pros and cons and how they compare. Someone else mentioned cockpit space and it is something I was thinking about as well

Nice ride Bro, mine is a 2010 so I think the 7 year itch needs to be scratched  :smt003
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Congrats and welcome to kayak fishin' happiness!  I still struggle with having to choose my Revo-16 over an Outback -- versatility vs. speed and ocean use, and then there was the minor detail that the Revo-16 was the only choice in stock at the time....

My only regrets:
  • Weight.  Hobies are heavy
  • Cramped cockpits.  That Mirage Drive dictates what happens in the cockpit, and other manufacturers have made nice use of that same space for fishing amenities.  That said, I'm a fly fisherman, so I'm used to squeezing my kit down to the most minimal, efficient set I can carry, and in the end, I find that "less is more."

Suggestion:  Replace the round center hatch with the PA rectangular hatch; there are YouTube vids that show how.

first congrats Codzilla, you will love it. The outback has a lot of cockpit...i'm able to cook in my lol but I agree the rectangular hatch is a must!

Since I started last year, I have downsize in the amount of gear I bring. One reason was the rectangular hatch. Make sure you get the rectangular bucket as well. I throw everything I need in there for the day. Then one or two tackle box if I'm freshwater fishing.

At any rate, I want to try out the 180 mirage drive! but for the price, I rather just buy another kayak lol

Congrats!

Say what you will about space issues on a Hobie but nothing trolls better. They simply excel at that aspect of fishing. That, and the ability to hover over a spot in the wind or current with both hands free. The presentation factor for live bait fishing is huge as well.

And don't forget the hot, spicy wings. They excel at that too...

About damn time!  I think you and Jesse are/were the only yakers who didn;t have at least one Hobie in the entire North Valley.   :smt003
