So I finally got a kayak, prowler 13 (thanks mark) and I got to say why I didn’t do this sooner. I’ve taken it out twice off the napa river. Did some trolling and lots of plugging while listening to muddy waters for a skunk, but still had lots of fun being on the water.  Now I can start consuming vast amounts of kayak paraphernalia. I got the pfd and wasn’t as bothersome or restricting as I thought I would be. It felt like a warm hug of safety.  Few thoughts: The long butt on the 8.6 rod I use for plugging from shore is not conducive for sitting in a kayak. I also realized that no matter how light the yak is I still need a cart. Hopefully the next report won’t be a skunk.

I had the same reaction when I purchase my first Kayak. "Why didn't I do this sooner." I also had no issues with getting skunked because being on the water was enough. Even now I'm itching to get out in it, it's been in storage for the past 4 months after my move. I Plan on digging it out this weekend and getting ready for last minute adhoc launches.

Enjoy your new addiction.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.  A skunk fishing day still beats the best day at work!

Congrats on the kayak !

Until the river clears significantly and begins to warm a little in the spring, trolling for stripers is pretty tough in the river. Plugging here and there may work but it's a bait game for the most part until conditions improve. Always fun to be on the water regardless.

where are you launching?  I typically launch behind Napa Valley College.  Have caught a couple of Stripers, but have seen some sturgeon caught up there.  The river is flowing so hard right now i am not sure its fishable.
