Hello Everyone,

My name is Jim and I will be moving to the Santa Cruz area in several months. Fishing has always been a passion of mine and I am looking forward to fishing a new area. I am an avid kayak fisherman in MD on the Chesapeake Bay (mainly for stripers) but do not have any experience fishing the West coast. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to meeting some NCKA out on the water when I move.

Welcome to the maddness, left coast style!  The left coast fishing is different than the right coast, but you will enjoy them.  Stripper fishing has a lot more pressure than the right coast, so most of the size are on the smaller side (but not less spectacular).  There is salmon, halibut, sturgeon, white sea bass ... oh my!  Lots of folks fishing the SC area, though there is no fish in Santa Cruz :)

Welcome Jim!

Lot of us in the Santa Cruz/Monterey area, and plenty of fun fishing close by.

I mostly dive, but this compilation vid I did recently gives you an idea of the fish species we get here in the Monterey Bay area:

Look forward to seeing you out OTW!

Sincerely,

Jim
