Hi yakers:

I need advice on a size model Yak net for Salmon. I just have a Gaff and have no clue! I'll be going to Fishermans' Wharehouse in Sac.
                                                                                                                          Thanks

I have this one and it looks like it will fit a pretty good sized salmon.  I hope to find out this season!

bluekayak ( if you read this),

Did you ever talk to stowmaster about a kayak friendly net? Their 20"x24" saltwater net does look nice, but the bag is only 24" deep. The Promar that jmairey showed me looked deeper than that, maybe 30".

I'll try to give the guy a call He sounded interested in developing something but I never heard back

I like those nets myself but I agree about the net depth Bigger salmon are just in it to the belly  The two I have are 20" and 24"

I have the promar 703... I'd get the 704 if I did it all over again... the 704 is substantially bigger and deeper.

I kind of thrashed my 703 on a big leopard shark last year... didn't fit in the net too well.

By the way... the green net material on the promar nets also makes for an awesome bait net to net the shad at lake mendo.

Take the 24x28 hoop, make the bag as deep as the saltwater tourny nets, and no telescoping handle?

I just got off the phone with Matt from Stowmaster

He's sending me replacement nets for the 30x32" nets to try out on the 24x28 hoop    I think he said the black freshwater net is around 40+" deep and the blue saltwater is around 32"  The mesh is 1 1/2" instead of 1"    Anyway I'll try them out next week

The other collapsibles I've seen seem on the flimsy side for bigger fish   Stowmaster tests the breaking strength which probably doesn't matter on a kayak

I think my promar will last one fish, but that could be due to me not really knowing how to net a big fish.

I guessing you don't lever them straight up in the air,  :smt002.
