Has anyone had any issues with just having the transducer sitting in the hull in a secure mount without using any goop or anything? Also does it read better if outside the hull? I'm running mine in a foam cut out. Just curious thanks.

It either needs to be Gooped in or in a water bath. It cannot have any air between the hull and ducer or it will not work.

Sounds good the issue I've noticed is until I get it wet  it doesn't act right but after I soak it It seems to work. So if I were to goop it then I wouldn't have to put water on it?

You can goop the foam in place, and then add water before inserting the transducer---that's the water bath method. Or, you can just goop the transducer in place. The important thing is that there is no air gap.

I never found it to be any better when mounted outside the hull, so I goop the transducer, since it's more convenient (unless you want to move it to another boat, that is).

Ok cool I'm gonna try gooping the foam just in case I decide to move it later. Thanks for the info I appreciate it.

That kind of looks like open cell foam, so check to make sure it's not porous and that it can hold water once gooped down.  If you can breathe air through it, wont work.

I ended up making a water bath around the foam with a Tupperware and siliconed it all up so the foam is just holding it in place but before it would only hold about 1/4 inch of water under  the foam and it worked when I was out. im just curious to see now that I will have it fully submerged if it will be any different.

Newbie here. What are you using for the Goop, what product. Also what fish finder would you recommend for a first time newbie kayaker with a low budget.

Goop is the brand name of a silicone contact adhesive and sealant.  You can get it at any hardware store, walmart, amazon, etc.  There is a tube of Goop specifically designed for marine environments.

As for fish finders, you will get a lot of answers.  Use search but don't go back too far because technology has changed.

Buy a lowrance hook 4 it has everything you could want for about 190$ use a Scott or RAM external transducer arm u can get water temp readings and can lift up in shallow water through Hall is nice but chance of air bubbles in install will have you redoing it

I picked up a garmin striker 4 and the few times I've used it I like it. I have it inside so I don't get the temperature reading but  I picked it up for about 120 at basspro.
