I spend lots of times on rivers, but I'd never kayak in flood waters.  What's missed in the brief article is I think the greatest risk these guys took - streams are flowing outside of their banks, and riparian edges have been turned in to strainers with massive water pressure pushing through them.

These guys are lucky, IMO.

Definitely lots of risks involved. It looks as though they were pressed up against tree's and unable to free themselves. That's when rescue decided they were unable. Wouldn't want to be in that situation and have a huge tree limb rushing down the water way and jamming me .  . Was young and dumb many moons ago. Older and not as dumb.
