Pretty interesting that yak fishing is getting popular enough that many companies are recognizing it and making gear for us. Although this may be a nice rod I'd rather get a beauty custom from KZ Reel Rods!  :smt007

Erik and I took a good look at the rod and talked to the Quantum rep while we were at the Fred Hall Show.  Neither of us were impressed or could really understand what made their rod kayak fishing specific.  The rep said the longer butt was the specific feature, but you can find that on lots of other rods.

If it floated or had attachment points for a leash then it would have made more sense.  Erik can build a custom rod with both features.

Thanks... yeah, Quantum missed the mark by a large margin with their kayak fishing rods.  Other than being a decent rod for $99, they really don't have any features that make them special for kayak fishing.  If anything, the longer butt is a detractor since most folks like a slightly shorter butt for reeling from the seated position.

Lamiglas came a bit closer to the mark by at least making their rods with composite blanks which have a more durable tip section that will withstand the stress of high-sticking more than a pure graphite rod.  Their Tri-flex composte blanks really are some pretty nice blanks.

American Rodsmiths have a line of kayak rods as well, but I haven't seen them for myself as of yet.  Looks like they at least incorporated a hook-keer that can double as a rod leash attachment, but thy don't offer a single rod over 7-feet.
