I have a HDS 7 gen 3 with 3D module and point 1 antenna. Everything is brand new. I went to the lake to try it out last weekend and it worked fine for about a hour and a half then screen started glitching and going dim. I restarted it a couple of times but continued to do it so I turned it off and kept fishing. When I got home the battery was at 11.1 VDC so I figured the little hobie battery couldn't hang with all the electronics. I just installed a 19ah dual purpose jet ski battery and now the unit won't even boot up. When I press the power button all buttons light up for about 3 seconds then go off and only the directional buttons stay lit but there is a black screen and no button response.

Check if your battery is within the units operating voltage range.

When I had trouble with a warrantied replacement unit I took it down to Englund Marine and hooked it up to their display before calling in warranty.  It powered right up.   My battery tested fine.   Turns out it was wiring issue.  Replaced all my connectors and it was good to go.

Yeah I scoured all the fish finder issues threads last night and read your posts. I re-did the wiring twice and even ran 10ga from the battery to the FF with same results. When you had your wiring issue did to FF try to start up at all or was it completely unresponsive. Going to take it down to west marine this morning and see if they'll let me plug it in to their display. I'll make sure to post what I find out in hopes of helping someone else out with same issue

Are you sure you didn't turn the screen brightness all the way down?  Happens WAY more often than you think & people think the unit died.

UPDATE:  took the unit down to west marine and hooked it up to their display, it did the same as when I had it installed in the yak. It's brand new and I've only had it for a week, going to ship it back to amazon and wait for the HDS carbon to be available at west marine
