Not all lithium batteries are created equal, but they do have problems with explosions and venting gas during a short/rapid discharge event.  It could be that you are literally playing with fire.  I wouldn't want to be the beta tester with one of these in a kayak on the salt.

A my closest ncka friends have used lithuim type batteries for years to power our FF.  I used mine yesterday for over 6 hours on a fishing trip.

Of course.  It's a low probability high impact event.  Just because nothing has ever happened to anyone you know doesn't reduce the risk, especially with a new product.  That's all.  Hopefully these are used safely and everything works out fine.  Not everyone is good at electricity though and these things are not idiot proof as far as I can tell.  Sort of the opposite actually.

I'm guessing the opposite of "idiot proof" is "proof of idiocy"...

I've been using my Torqeedo lithium since 09.. no problems..  All my tools ( makita' Bosch ) are lithium.. never had or heard of problems with them.
I'm sure it has more to do with design than the type.  They keep advancing.
LOVE the 15 ah capacity on this...   I wonder,,  Is this designed for the Wilderness Torqeedo motor?.
That's  the same 26v motor  Wilderness has adpated , like Hobie's Evolve  ,,,I believe...

If you're willing to DIY you can have a WATERPROOF battery and box for half the cost. Like Mel said, some of us have been doing this for years.

Phones have been using lithium for quite a while. Every once in a while we get a bad design. I hate to see a 35ah lithium battery do what the Samsung batteries did.  This is an interesting article on the subject.

for some reason I cant see page two of this thread so maybe this info is there....In looking at the product description it only says it is a Lithium battery, but not what type of Lithium. Some do catch fire more easily, like a Lithium polymer known as Lipo. These are the ones used in R/C cars, planes, etc for high energy output. Rob any info on what type Lithium this is?

Salty!  I need to talk to you.  I want this setup.  Can I charge it with my motorcycle trickle charger or do I need a special charger for rc cars?  I really would like to know more about your setup.

Thanks,
Jimmy D
