I haven't gone fishing in a while and looking at the forecast it looks like tomorrow is the only decent day so I loaded the kayak, sent the wife getting squids and should be ready to go...

Heading to a friend house for Thanksgiving dinner  in a little while, so if there is no too much liquid involved I should launch from Dock A around 7AM.

Company welcome, I will be on Ch69 most likely heading toward the mile buoy.

Happy Turkey Day again!!!

We've been watching the forecast and also concluded that if we're fishing at all during the long weekend, it's got to be tomorrow. We're not decided yet and would most likely be a bit later than you, but we'll call out on ch 69 if we make it. I'm not sure where the mile bouy is, is it straight out to sea 1 mile from the yacht harbor? We launch from the main boat ramp/dock, the one near the harbor office. Is that dock A?

Yes 1 mile due south of harbor approx.  don't launch at the boat ramp near harbor office.  A dock is on the other side of the harbor near Aldo's Restaurant.  Also J Dock (a little further down that other side of harbor) has a hand launch ramp.

Also the refs near lighhouse point can be productive.

Mile bouy aka whistle bouy---you'll hear it groaning once you get close.

Good luck out there and it would be great to see a report.

Bushy,

Why can't we launch at boat dock? Was there some kind of rule change?

It is going to be quick as I didn't even feel a bite.... Launched from dock A a bit before sun set and headed toward the mile buoy as planned. Went way pass the buoy, back around it, the reef, a couple of waypoints for nada.

The water was a bit rough to get out of the harbor but very doable if time right. On my way in, a ahole on a powerboat was coming out full speed, jumping waves and I thought he will land on me.

Not too many boats and kayaks, I almost had the ocean for myself :-) On my way in, I heard someone calling from NCKA (Lyz I think) so I hope they will have had more luck.

In any case, I was nice to get on the water for a few hours

It's seems legal according to info I could find online.  I know they have signs directing SUPs "away" from the ramp and instead out to the gas dock area.

We have launched many times from both the main boat ramp as well as the dock immediately to the right of it - the one that says no SUPs. They don't have any problems with kayaks launching from there, just SUPs (no idea why.)

Today we launched around 10am. A bit rough in the harbor mouth due to sand build up, but once we were out it was fine. We headed out to lighthouse point, there were some swells there, and it looked too big near that big rock, so we stopped slightly before that rock. Not a single bite, not even a nibble. Spoke to Frenchie briefly on the radio (hi!) After a while, we headed to mile bouy and fished all around it, watched other fishermen also having no luck. Then we slowly fished our way into the harbor, dropping the line here and there to test the waters, still not a single nibble. We did see a pod of dolphins which was nice, and lots of otters, very cute. The conditions coming back in the harbor mouth were rougher, but still very doable as long as we stayed far to the right - the left side was full of SURFERS!

We spoke with other fishermen back in the parking lot; in general not much biting, but one guy on a powerboat got a few crabs and said he caught 2 ling cod that were just 1/2" shy of the limit so he had to throw them back.

Can't wait to try again :-)

Thanks for the report. Too bad the fishing was so slow. When (if?) the swell settles down for a few days, fishing should improve.
