The seabed was thrust upwards about 2 meters in NZ from the earthquake last week. This appears to be almost exactly where I dove for paua in 2011. Lots of stranded paua, but it gives an idea of how abundant they are.

most earthquake aftermath typically show structures and buildings collapsed.  i've never seen pics where the seabed got pushed upwards.  look at all those abs now above water!  i wonder how many of those can be saved???

That happened here after the April 1992 quakes. I think 1.1m was the greatest, but even today if you look at the charts around the cape it will warn you that the charts might not be accurate and do not reflect changes from the 1992 quakes.

Makes ab diving look real easy there, another hard blow to Mother Nature there I dont think they will save them all.
