Aloha NCJA Bruddahs,
I just bought a new 2016 REVO 13 and and I'm getting it ready for a fishing kayak. I bought and just mounted a Scotty 244L Locking Flush Deck Mounting Brackets w/ a 244 Backing Plate for a strong mount as I might be using the holder for Scotty kayak size downrigger.
My question after installing is that because of the locking mechanism there seems the potential for leakage as the Locking bracket does not look completely waterproof.
I first though of just buying the Scotty Flush Mount, but for about $2 more  the Locking Flush Mount seemed like a good deal.
Have any of you had any problems with water leakage, especially if the boat capsizes and any suggestions to make it more water proof besides switching it out with a non locking Flush Mount which looks like it would have a better seal?
Here's some pics of the mount and backing plate to refresh you memory of what it looks like:

You could always add some Marine goop before inserting the screws, but water will still get in through the top

HI CK,
Thanks for your post. I am not worried about the screw holes in the hull. It's the area where the locking mechanism is located that is not a good seal.
I may just leave it and hope that  not that bad for a leak.
The mount is pretty solid and would be strong enpugh tp mount a small Scotty downrigger.

Take off that locking flush mount, throw it away, and replace it with a non-locking flush mount!  The problem with the locking flush mounts is that water can leak into your kayak through the locking mechanism, and water can leak into your kayak through the hole in the bottom of the socket.  You can seal up the hole in the bottom of the socket by gluing a rubber crutch tip or chair leg protector over it, but there doesn't seem to be any way to seal up the locking mechanism.  A couple years ago I read a post from a kayaker who was participating in a sailfish tournament, and got a large amount of water inside his kayak through a locking flush mount he had recently installed in his kayak.  He warned readers not to use locking flush mounts on a kayak.I looked for this post so I could give you a link, but can't find it.

Locking flush mounts are fine for mounting on the railing of a motor boat, where waterproofness is not an issue.

Hey Pmmpete,
Thanks for the tip for the tip. I figured that I might have to replace the whole thing with non-locking flush mounts. It looked like a great idea until after I mounted it.My only question now is that the locking flush mount took a 1.5"hole and the non locking has a smaller mounting hole 1 and 3/8" maybe.
Do you think that will be a problem?

Switching from a locking flush mount to a smaller diameter non-locking flush mount will leave a gap of about 1/16th of an inch around the socket of the non-locking flush mount.  But that won't be a problem, because what will seal both the bolt holes and the hole around the socket is a layer of sealant such as Marine Goop, Aquaseal, or silicone sink and tub sealant which is sandwiched between the back of the flush mount and the hull of your kayak.  Spread a layer of sealant on the back of the flush mount, stick it in the hole, bolt it down, and wipe off any excess sealant which squeezes out.  I wouldn't spread much sealant right next to the socket, because it's likely to ooze through the 1/16" gap and drip into your kayak.

It's hard to find a glue or sealant which will adhere firmly to kayak plastic.  If you put a blob of your sealant on an inconspicuous place on the inside of your kayak, let it dry for a couple of days, and then try to peel it off, it is likely to pop right off.  But for the purpose of sealing the holes associated with your flush mount, the sealant you use doesn't need to adhere tightly to the hull of your kayak, because it is sandwiched between the back of the flush mount and the outside of your kayak, and nothing is going to disturb it.  All it needs to do is create a waterproof gasket between the flush mount and the outside of your kayak.

Another issue is the backing for the nuts which hold down the flush mount.  The area inside the gunwales of a Revolution is pretty narrow and arched in many places.  If you use your backing plate, it may only be hitting the hull at its outside edges, and if it isn't lined up perfectly in the arched area, it may only be hitting firmly in the right front and left rear corner, or the left front and right rear corner.  If this is the case, I suggest that you replace the backing plate with stainless steel fender washers and nylock nuts, and bend the washers to fit the curvature of the inside of the gunwale.

Michael - Go with the Scotty Flush Mount Bracket with Splash Cover 244, put them in the gunwale for your rod holders.  Personally I didn't put a Scotty backing plate because of lack of space.  I just placed SS washers with screw and lock nuts.  Its plenty strong.

As for your DR, I suggest you mount it on one of the side pockets.  Use a Scotty Deck Mount Bracket 241, it should come with the Lake Troller DR.  Then attach a Scotty Mounting Plate behind it.

Thanks NCKA Bruddahs (Mel and Pete) for your great advice!!!I am totally appreciative to belong to the NCKA Community!! Seems like if you run into any problems having to do with kayak fishing, somebody already figured it out before.
I would have wasted a lot of time trying to find some DIY info on YouTube or HobieCat.
Have a great Thanksgiving!!!
Michael Da Bruddah

By the way, just ordered the Scotty non-locking flush mounts from ACK and they will be here on Friday!!!
I know that GOOP really sticks to the hull and was wondering if silicone might be better as it will be more like a flexile gasket
between the hull and flush mount bottom?
What would you suggest?

This. And I prefer goop to silicone. Finally, if you want locking, probably best to go with railblaza mounts
