Hi everyone--

I am baffled by the problem I am having with my hook4. It was working fine but it recently started turning itself off after about 30 seconds of being on.  I have checked my battery, redid all my wiring, tried different batteries but nothing has solved this problem. Is this a problem with the unit or should I try something else? I even did a hard reset but nothing has worked so far and I am out of ideas.

try spraying your connections on the unit w electric cleaner. red and white spray can . follow up w some grease when you connect it back up. use a Q-tip as well to clean . hope this helps. i have had similar issues before.

Thanks for the quick response. Are you referring to the connections that plug into the unit or into the battery, or both? And the grease is the dialectic grease yes?

I got the CRC spray, cleaned, and reconnected everything. Still no lov . Turns on for a bit then shuts off within a minute. So frustrating!

Have you tried it using someone else's power cord?  This will help to isolate that as an issue.  What you describe usually happens with bad/poor battery and/or corrosion within the wiring (plug, within the inside of the wire, connections, etc).  Best place to test/try this is a retail location with a display such as west marine, bass pro, sportsman's, etc...

Mine did the same thing.  I finally decided it was the low voltage alarm.  Factory reset fixed it.  Hold + and - while powering up to reset.  Hasn't done it since reset.

Factory reset will erase all user data, waypoints, etc. In unit memory.

I would basically trouble shoot it by isolating the problem.

Battery: Get a new Battery and test
Line: Test a new line
Head unit: Try and new head unit.(Or factory reset)

The majority of the issues, i've found are from cold shorts (Bad connections) or battery terminals or old battery.
