So pretty typically I took a couple trips out on the ocean (Mendocino, La Jolla) in a kayak and HAD to have one.  Ended up buying a budget kayak (pescador pro) from ACK.com and another for my gf.  This forum has already been enormously helpful in terms of getting information (especially on safety and gear).  I've only taken them out once to the Petaluma River (Slough?) while I putzed around and taught myself to use a bait-caster.  Spent more time undoing my birds nests than fishing but live and learn!  Anyways, hoping to get in touch with some local NCKA to learn about the area, get some tips, and probably some beers too.  See you all out there! :smt006

Welcome!  Spent all day monday learning the anatomy of a birds nest on my new avet sxj.  Spent at least an hour on one.  Got many more trying to cast across the bay with a 6oz weight and finally I remembered a tip to tighten my drag to where the weight falls with gentle resistance.  Now as of today and yesterday I've been wingin' out like a pro rookie with no birds nest.  I hope you have found your baitcasting mojo.  I'm onto somethin' here and I am enjoying my new found thrill.  Just casting with confidence.  Welcome again :smt006
