TR-102W Regulations

Contacted Promar and got this info.  With older models, the 3 clips needs to be removed. The new generation TR-102W will be sold DFW compliant. 


Thanks for giving us a call about your TR-102W and making sure that is up to date with the new DFW regulations. Attached are some photos for one of the options we suggest to make your trap compliant. You don’t have to do it exactly this way, but you do have to remove the metal clips that hold the trap together and use cotton twine instead. Feel free to contact me If you have any more questions.

I am gonna try this.  Its probably the same twine in the Costco baked chicken.

Remove and replace the 3 clips.  Cover your ass when the warden does his checking.

thanks for the info mel.  im going to try to do a bit more crabbing this season. i have the 102w's with escape rings that the previous owner installed about 4", ill have to check.  did you put them on yourself on the ones in the picture?  if so, what diameter?  and what are the regs on escape rings (assuming it hasnt changed)

im assuming the 5 inch opening mentioned in the new regs is to describe the openning created AFTER the rotton cotton breaks/dessolves.  but please do correct me if im wrong.

Crab traps must contain at least one destruct device made from a single strand of untreated cotton twine, size No. 120 or less, that creates an unobstructed opening anywhere in the top or upper half of the trap that is at least 5 inches in diameter when this material corrodes or fails.

Other regulations that remain in place for crab traps include that every crab trap be outfitted with two rigid circular escape openings that are a minimum of 4¼ inches in diameter and located so that the lowest portion is at the most 5 inches from the top of the trap.

Just called Michael's in Milpitas and they said they had the size 120 in stock.
Going to check it out at lunch today.
