seacliff beach perching.

I met a couple sniffer bassers for perch. the fishing stunk! 

we were hoping for numbers if not quality, to practice grubbing. but got neither!

all I got were a few taps on my grub early, felt like small perch.

the other ken got some perch on grass shrimp, but it was slow even with bait.
he let my older boy reel in a perch dink which was cool as
I have yet to put him on any fish myself. takes all my concentration to
catch fish myself let alone help my sons catch any. sigh.

to me that beach is shorepound and dark small grained sand, it doesn't feel
like a grubbing beach. However, I caught quite a few at seabright(?)
(beach just north of harbour) once, and it feels similar, so who knows?

I tried some experiments with a GULP grub, a baitcaster on the 13.5' rod, enough
to stay busy, but I'd prefer to stay busy with fish,

my experience at seacliff is either there are tons of fish or zero.  Took my at the time nine year old and he literally caught a fish every cast, including the botched ones that barely made it to the water.  We came home and my then 11 year old decided maybe fishing wasnt such a bad idea.  We went back a few days later and zero, not a hit, bump...nothing.

on a side note I bought some GULP bait, really feeling like it was probably a con, and recently tried it when the grubbing was bad at New Brighton cuz of the weeds in the water.  Actually caught a few dinks with the sand worm imitations so I guess the stuff works.  Or the fish at NB are really stupid!

The perching has been slow lately,but the jumbos will be back to spawn later in the Spring.Seacliff does turn out some nice perch from time to time.In fact, the largest perch I've ever caught (a huge pile perch) came off the Seacliff pier using soft-shelled sandcrabs and casting close to the pilings.When the perch are in soft-shells and pileworms from the pier work well.If you want to toss grubs there are better beaches IMO.

When I grubbed for perch there I didn't really get much either. I was wondering what was gong on because the sniffer said it was doing well. Guess it's just one of those places. Thanks for the report J, guess I should join you with reportng bum trips too.

After we split we went a bit north and found some silvers. It was kind of late in the tide period, but we managed about 7 each using bait and a couple on grubs. We brought 9 of them home and I had a nice dinner on some palm sized silvers. 

I hope that next time we fish together we do better!! We need to hook up for bass soon!
