There are a lot, anything 12v is fine. Most use 7AH to 9AH.

I like the Hobie 9AH one, http://www.austinkayak.com/products/12683/Hobie-Fish-Finder-12v-Battery.html

Make sure you get the proper charger for it too.

This one will work too, http://www.austinkayak.com/products/2811/Humminbird-GCBK-12-Volt-Gel-Cell-Battery-with-Charger.html

About $40 cheaper than the Hobie one, works just as well  as long as you keep it dry.

I don't know any local stores that sell those batteries or I'd recommend them over ACK.

I have this. Waterproof and lightweight.  I put it inside a tupperware (probably dont need to but ...) and velcro the container to my foot brace. Saved myself $ to buy waterproof container and effort to drill/goop/etc.

Lots of good write ups done by some of the guys here on this very board. I think decisions are SLA or LiPo. I am making the move to LiPo. You have to be a more careful, and understand how to properly charge, store, etc...but price competition with the rage of drones and other rc toys have helped prices go south. I am getting a 16amh unit for about $50

Think about starting with a 7 amp hour SLA battery that you can find easily.  You said you don't know much about powering your fish finder, and gel-cell SLA batteries are the easiest to work with initially.

A Battery Tender Junior (~$19) is a popular and reliable battery charger.

For wiring, you'll need spade connectors to attach to the battery terminals and a quick disconnect plug so you can get the battery out for charging.  Two-prong quick disconnects for trailers will work, but there are many waterproof disconnects available - watch what wire gauge they use and try to match it to the Lowrance wiring.

MAKE SURE YOU USE THE FUSE that came with the finder.

I solder the wire-wire connections and use heat-shrink tubing to protect them, many use crimp connectors with or without heat-shrink.  Many use those round/pill-shaped connectors; I don't because I've found them unreliable in other types of installations.

Hobie sells a battery holder that fits the 8-inch hatches, or can be secured to the mast-holder inside the hull.  It's reasonably cheap and is a popular way to hold an SLA battery.

Get some dielectric grease and LIGHTY grease all you connectors and battery spade terminals to retard corrosion.

You may need the Hobie thru-hull kit if it wasn't supplied with the kayak.

Lithium Ion and LiPo batteries are a bit more complicated to install and need a lot more care and feeding.  They weigh less and are a great alternative to heavier SLA batteries, but the wiring and a waterproof housings make setting hem up somewhat trickier.

You will find tons of information posted by others if you do a search.  Good luck!
