Got to the lake at 8:30AM...met Rick / Fendente and Fred "Savage" and family...Chuck showed up minutes later. We kept hearing about the massive trout plant and the limits of fish from almost eveyone we bumped into at the parking lot..... :smt011....."whatever dude"

Anyway, eveyone but me caught fish..... :smt010 I couldn't even catch a sun tan with the sun shinning all day  :smt013 I ended up being the photographer of the day...which I did not mind at all :smt003

Savage rented a skiff with the family - they had one trout on board before the day was over. Good seeing you Fred.....how's "in-land" life treating you?

I trolled a fire tiger rapala for trout and threw a wacky rigged senko for bass and got no love. I did spot some big bass swimming right next to some downed Christmas trees inside Half Moon Bay. I was tossing senkos and Chuck caught up with me and got to convince one of the big ones to bite....wasn't sure if he was using a night crawler or a small plastic worm.

I had a great first outing with you guys!  The bite was off, but it was the nicest day of spring so far, and great to get on the water.  Also an eye-opener to trade rides with both Mooch and Chuck.  An open boat is in my future!  Looking forward to more of it, and better fishing.  That's why it's not called 'catching'.

Thanks for being so welcoming!

Mooch-
It was good seeing you as always. Too bad you didn't get any love. It was a tough weekend for you that's for sure.

Rick-
It was a pleasure meeting you and chatting with you briefly in the parking lot. I'm sure we'll hook up sometime in the future.

Chuck-
Nice bass... that was the nicest thing pulled out of that lake yesterday.

Well... We arrived at Chabot around 8:30 and anticipated a great day... fishing wise. A park ranger picking up garbage in the parking lot told us that limits were the norm with all the plants that the lake had recently. Looking at the plant board in the marina... I would've guessed that the boys were going to get their fill of fish. Man, was I wrong. I rented a boat with an electric moter, loaded the family and off we went. The fishing was ssssssssssslllllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwww... I threw out everything I had in that lake for 3 strikes and 1 landed trout. Broken backs in various colors, pinns minnows, shad raps, cast masters, spinners, floaters, divers, crawlers, crawlers on a wedding ring, with and without flashers... I stopped short of anchoring up and dunking powerbait. The ticket for us was the wedding ring with a crawler with some micro flashers. If you can call get 3 strikes and 1 fish the ticket. Jr. was all jazzed up for a bit while he faught the planter sized beast. It was a great day on the lake catching or not. The sun was out, the birds were singing and the family had smiles all the way around. The theme of the day was "Don't rock the Boat Baby..." after I stood up in the boat to let Jr. drive. That was fun... I almost sent Melissa and Ethan for a swim.

I hope you all got out to enjoy the great weather...

Freddie

Great day of just getting out!!  i love the shore lines and different areas in this lake.If only they held some fish,we'd be having it too good.
Can't bitch about the long drive either.

Way to get that trout up fendente! they were not cooperating

Adam....I was using the set-up you gave me at Del Valle...on my 70th cast, I snagged it on some downed timber  :smt011 I really suck at worm fishing  :smt013 I need to be a little more patient...me thinks :smt001

Joel - If it makes you feel better, I have been skunked 3/5 trips this year, and besides, you have that natural tan and the AOTY.

Chuck - Nice bass but I don't know about that hat.

Yup... that hat didn't do me or that bass any justice.  However, the one thing that ugly hat has going for it is good mojo.

Sorry... Adam.  I know this might sound sacreligious to a professional bassmaster like you.... but I was flylining a live crawler.  I'm a big fan of Senkos, but even they weren't doing any good that day.  Just ask Joel. :smt003

I'd have to agree with Chuck...nothing beats the mighty nightcrawler  :headbang: This is the second time Chuck stole a bass from MY SPOT  :smt011 Last year, we were fishing Stevens Creek. I saw BIG bass along a steep bank - right next to a shallow shelf. I spotted another  bass hanging out in 3 ft of water - I called in Chuck and we both paddled right next to it...it did not move at all. I could have speard it with my paddle - it was that close. Water was super clear. I was thinking that it was guarding it's nest but there was no visible sign of one. Anyway, I had a swimbait and jigged it for a while and then let it sit still....the bass came up to it and was nudging it with it's nose and it turned it's back on it  :smt013 Chuck then pitches his fly-lined night crawler right next to it and get's 'em right away....
