fished the shell bank on the outgo- ghost and mud.  Saw nate and crew off N of me.  Got two surfperch?? One was definitely a redtail (willl try to post the pic later).  Does anyone know if they come into the bay to spawn? was weird, i've never caught surfperch in the bay.

Moved into shallow water on the income off rat rock, for one striper looking bite that i missed.
that makes it 0 for 34,567,894 tries for Stevo for sturgeon.

Can't wait for stripers and salmon

A few years ago I caught a huge redtail surfperch out there in the flats while sturgeon fishing.  It was like 14 or 15 inches.  They must come up to spawn to some extent.

Sorry to hear no dino luck... I'm going to take another crack at them next weekend I think... then it's time to shift into halibut hunting gear.

WTG Steve......perversely, I wish i was there with you.

With any luck, I'm going out in Capitola tomorrow afternoon to look for elusive early-season flatties.

never know, probably the 34,567,895th try that will get the pump!

I'm just about to hang up the sturgeon rigs...I've got four weeks of traveling in the next 5 weeks...so no fishing for a bit, and I'll miss the salmon opener!

Off to north marin beaches today for some perchin'...

Nice to meet ya, Steve. :smt006

My friend Dave bought his first kayak Friday afternoon, so I brought him and his new Quest out to join JTF and me.

Our first location (just north of Steve) yielded no action, so we picked up anchor and moved closer to John, who'd had a couple bumps.  Turned out that was all there was going to be for that spot.  Dave and I held out, hoping perseverance would win out, while John went looking for fishier water.
The move worked.  Not too long after relocating, John landed a FAT striper.
The picture doesn't quite do the fish justice, it was a barrel of a fish!
Not long after that, we decided to call it a day and paddle back in.  All day long had been picture perfect out on the water, warm and sunny and hardly a breeze.  As soon as we started for shore the wind picked up, moving right along with the incoming tide we had to paddle into.  Dave has paddled a canoe for years, and handled the long paddle impressively.

The striper was released.

Ghost shrimp and Herring was the bait.

Way to go jtf, you nail those stripers consistantly. It looked like a good one to go back too. Good genes.

Yeah Ben, the striper was a beauty, I'm positive it was a female and when I layed her down in my foot well she came with 6 or 7 inches of my 46" mark.  Heavy fish too!!!  I had to let it go...

Amazingly beautiful day out there, I had 2 nibbles and after the tide moved I went looking for more air bubbles as this is my new theory as to where the fish are out there :smt003, not sure if i'm on to something or not...

Z, you see the belly on that thing, she blew up my 30lb mono striper rig that had herring fillets on it.

Also, there are still alot of confused herring by the san quentain side of the bridge.  I saw seals and birds chasing bait and the bait was jumping out of the water everywhere!!!  JTF..
