In Fort Bragg for a bit and wondering where a good place to launch would be. Tried the mouth of the Moto River but it was a loooooong drag through deep sand. Any hints?

Get wheeleez sand wheels for Noyo, park next to jetty and drag on rocks or drive to other side of harbor on south harbor drive and there are two launches you can use.

That's not that bad, where's your commitment?  :smt002

J/K, been there done that, done it a Van Damme and Russian Gulch and many others. Beach Wheels are the ticket, a must, don't cheap out on this.

Like Duane said, there are two ramps down South Noyo Drive, one right by Tommy's the other further east up river. It requires a longer paddle and river mouth entry.

Caspar is a short drag if you don't have wheels.

It can't be that bad if I drag my T160 plus two Scuppers (for my boys) to and from the beach.

P.S. We'll be in Ft. Bragg 8/11-19 if you're still around - maybe meet up?

Not much difference in distance between Caspar and Noyo, the latter has a little more elevation gain.

I've found a backpack for gear versus loaded on the 'yak seems to make it a bit easier pull. At least until you add a limit of fish and a limit of meaty Abs.

Get the wheeleez, you won't regret it.

The wheeleez are a must. I parked here and it wasn't too bad to launch.

Headed to that area this weekend... So you parked in the lot then wheeled down to the sandy beach N of the jetty?

Looks simple enough.

correct - easy launch there north of the jetty.

Good luck,
Brad

Thanks, Brad.

Any particular areas nearby that tend to produce a lot of rockfish?

Not sure of the number of fish there now being so close to a major launch, but we used to scuba just to the south of the cove, (late 80s) lots of great structure and lots of fish there in 50-70 ft of water.  There are allot of wash rocks extending out from the south point of the cove so give it a wide berth and keep sharp.

Never went north of the cove but heard it was great too.

Both north and south are productive. For me, wind and swell dictate which way may be best suited on a given day.
