I got you, buddy. Head over to Petco and buy like 100 crickets; they're much easier to keep alive than worms, panfish eat them like popcorn, and you can feed them oatmeal. Keep them in a box or huge tupperware with holes in the lid, and give them an old egg carton to climb on. Make sure you name them each individually, this is important.Take them out with you and show them the scenery, preferably while issuing final rites.

Finally, hit up a cove of your choosing and rig a small bobber 4 or 5 feet above a teeny little light wire live bait hook, with a split shot like a foot or two above that. Hook the little buddy through the plate behind its head and cast near some cover. Should take all of 45 seconds to get a fish. You'll catch a fair number of redears this way too, and they're basically an all-around better version of the same fish.

Thanks again for the tips everybody. Had a great weekend and caught my first fish (plural) from the kayak. A few small bass, some bluegill and a delicious crappie.

My girlfriend also accidentally hooked into 20+ pound catfish with her Ronco Pocket Fisherman, which was pretty hilarious. I've never even seen a catfish before and I couldn't manage to get it into the kayak, but still a good time. We'll definitely be back there soon for more camping and to try some more of what everyone suggested. Thanks again!
