What's up, guys?

We're taking the nephews shore fishing at Chabot today. Any last minute advice to give them something to pull on? Trout has been slow, but their planting catfish. I'm thinking it'll be best to keep it simple... Small hook, split shot(s), and a worm. Seems like that has the best chance at a panfish, catfish, trout... Hell even a sucker fish or carp would give them something to tug on.

Any advice for a fail-safe method to put kids on fish at Chabot?

Thanks in advance!

The catfish guys that do well, fish without any weight. Just mackerel on a hook and toss it out. Watch your rod, they will take it.

Thanks for the tip, Snapperhead.

We had a good time out there yesterday, mostly soaking chunks of anchovy.

The 9 year old nephew mostly just wanted to borrow our cell phones to play games (...ain't happening), but the 6 year old was very interested in everything I was doing. After a little brief instruction and a couple "dry runs" where he held onto the rod while I casted out our baits, he had it dialed! His very first cast all by himself he grabbed the rod and let that 'chovy fly!!! A solid 50-60 foot cast!

(Ok... next cast ended up in a tree, but hey... Happens to the best of us).

Anyway, we all had fun and all my gear made it home ingood working order.

No fish were caught, but I still call it a win.

Can't always catch fish, but there is always a chance to have a great time!!! Sounds like a great trip, congrats.
