Not sure what you have in mind, but if you're looking for a new but old school washer take a look at Speed Queen, the GF wanted a good simple top loader, without all the bells and whistles and did her research and came up with Speed Queen and is really happy with it after a couple years.

Now if that's not what you're interested in, just get back to me and I'll delete my comments for you.  :smt002

I'm not an appliance guy either, but it's worth noting that Samsung appliances don't play well with others. If you want to stack a washer/dryer make sure they're either the same brand or neither of them is a Samsung...

My wife says the most expensive is best.  Our last washer and dryer were Ferrari red and in their own world as expensive.

not so much caring about top or front loaders or even brand...just been doing research on line and the drive is what I`m looking at..and the consensus is 50/50 just wanted to see if there was any input from anyone experienced with appliances..

Thanks Speed Queen ..some of the new top loaders dont have the agitator in the basin anymore...seem to be more efficient and have a better load capacity too ....check it out see if it drive or belt ..thanks....and you can delete your comments just for fun  :smt044

Shortly after my divorce in 1993 my last grand parent passed away, so I got my grandparents May Tag washer and dryer, not sure how long they had them but it was awhile so let's say they're 30 yrs old. I've repaired the dryer twice, a sensor, and the coil, then the washer once, the timer/brain.  But my point is they're both belt drive and as far as I know the belts are original. (and still working)

Of course the saying that "they don't make them like they used to" comes to mind

I have a LG Direct Drive top load washer I purchased about 2 years ago and have been very satisfied. I really dont know the technology behind it. I bought it based on online reviews. Also, not having the middle agitator is a big plus. Now I can wash big blankets/comforters with ease.

A lot of people are not built like they used to be too.

I'll second the speed queen washer. We had a high efficiency front loading washer and the clothes always smelled funny (at least that's my excuse...). We tried everything to cure it but nothing helped. No problem like that with the speed queen---very basic and effective.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I'll piggyback on this.  Any comments or thoughts on he washers in particular to "water hammering" on well water?  Got one but haven't installed yet.  We sit with pressure around 40'ish.  Worried about hammering possibilities.  Don't want to dick with installing anti-hammer devices & such.
