Hello all,

Just when I started to think there were no other fisherWOmen out there!    Glad to see there are!!

I am brand new to kayaking and kayak fishing. I jumped in with both feet after paddling with my husband in a Prowler 15 in the area behind Monterey Bay kayaks.  LOVED IT!

I've always loved to fish (lakes and rivers) and used to go rafting in Sacramento where I grew up - so I found kayaking & kayak fishing  to be a perfect upgrade...

I met Allen Bushnell by chance after he had taken some people out fishing in Monterey and picked his brain about kayaks.

My kayak arrives in another couple of weeks   I've decided on the Prowler 15 angler (package deal - comes with the Hummingbird 343C fish finder installed, Scotty rod holders, and a Carlyse Simple Magic paddle) The paddle is good enough for now I hope!

I will need to hook up the battery (not included) - any suggestions would be great - it uses a 12V battery - but the ones at West Marine weigh 23lbs - is that what everyone uses?? Are there lighter ones? (Again - I'm new  )

My husband keeps looking on Craigs list to pick up a cheap kayak for himself. He is on a wait and see how much I really like it kind of thing, but I can't wait!

Kim

Welcome, Kim!  :smt006  I 'm SO glad to hear from another fisherWOman and hope we can paddle together soon! I'm in East Bay. Where are you located?

I've learned so much from the guys on this forum, including the fish finder info you requested. Take a look at the different threads on the forum, in particular, the topics under "Rigged Kayaks" for help with installation of your transducer and battery. I use a West Marine 12V battery (Model 6826788) that can be recharged in their spotlight. It measures about 4"L x 3"W x 2"D. I also keep an extra one charged in the spotlight in my car for emergencies and for a spare for the fish finder when I am camping. I've tried all kinds of configurations but ended up just wiring it, putting it in a small dry bag, folding the bag up over the wires, and tying it to a scupper hole near the kayak hatch. Seems to work fine.

Again, welcome and let's get on the water soon.
