I'm in need of some rudder line material and was wondering if I could get some locally. It's 700# (or 1000# should also work) braided spectra. Is the only option to order it online? It doesn't seem like it should be that hard to find...

You can get it ordered through a Hobie dealer, or you can get it online at places like ACK.  Not sure about locally though.

Thanks. Yes, I've seen it on ACK, but was hoping there was an equivalent that I could get today...

I picked some of this up today. It works but is noticeably thicker and a bit more friction. I'm wondering if if might wear the plastic tubing faster than the standard stuff. I guess I'll find out...

If its the same stuff,,, it's slick as teflon.    Looks rough, but I've never noticed any wear or chaffing

West Marine a couple of years ago had some 1/8" white dacron line that I used for rudder lined on my P-15, and it has held up very well.  It doesn't stretch, and is stronger than hell.  I had used plastic coated stainless fishing line, but it eventually corroded and failed and it needed crimps, with the cord, I just tied knots.   I've also used the dacron line  in place of the bungies around the forward hatch and rear well - so I can clip stuff to it (And I ran some short pieces from one side to the other in the bow with a slip know on one end of each, so I can't easily secure the large halibut I plan to catch.  I think I found it in the area where they have things for rigging dodgers (spray and sun shields), not in the rope area. It was in a 1 ft. hank, not on a roller.

Sounds good.

Coincidentally, I used it on my new G2. I had an old Hobie twist-and-stow rudder and I just had to try it out. It seems to work well, although I'll probably reinforce the area around the handle, since there's quite a bit of side-to-side flex. I haven't done the up-down lines yet, as that's a little more complicated internally, but I'm sure it'll work too.

Here's our version.  Allows the rudder to fold up , out of the way while using the cart.    Control lines are similar to what you see on bicycle handle bars.  SS Bulkhead fittings prevent any water entry.   Rudder, $70   Cabes. $30
