Yeah the fishing deals weren't there, but all snow gear is 70-90% off, just picked up new boots/bindings/helmets/googles for the family.

Nice score Ben, I might make one more trip to look for other items ?

I just called local store and they told me they are not closing. The have been bought by a competitor. Are the employees being kept in the dark, or could it be true?

The leases are being auctioned off in the BK court in Delaware.  That hasn't happened yet but it's entirely possible that there is a white knight bidder for that lease and that they have told the employees that they intend to put up a new flag and retain them as employees under the new store.  They would be under no obligation to continue current pay, benefits, honor vacation time and sick time accrued, etc.

With a billion dollars in debt I would imagine they are either being bought out or shutting down. Not all at once but certainly the stores with minimal sales will be weeded out first. Sports Chalet recently posted they are closing and Mel Cottons also filed and will be closing in the near future. It's really unfortunate after so long.

It's all public information in their chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in Delaware.  You can read the entire docket yourself.  They are liquidating and closing all stores.  The leases that they still own are valuable and are being auctioned off in the bankruptcy court.  They have permission to sell their inventory at deep discounts.  They are not long for this world, the entire company is dead.  There will even be a tombstone, bankruptcy lawyers have a sick sense of humor.

They removed all the fishing gear from my local store too.  Might go by and get some camping chairs or work out clothes though...

Same here, all I ever saw was over priced stuff for every other sport.  On top of that I had a bad experience at one.

Dear Customers,

Sports Authority and its predecessor companies have been serving the sporting goods needs of our customers since 1919. It is with great sadness that we are intending to close all of our stores by the end of August.

We will be holding store closing sales at all of our locations that will allow you to take advantage of big discounts on great brands.

On behalf of the entire Sports Authority team, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to our customers for their years of loyalty. It has been a pleasure to serve you and your family.

Remember that you can get better deals before the liquidation begins. Just have to pay attention to what they are doing.

Got that email too. I'll go check it out but I'm not optimistic that I'll find anything here. No cold weather gear and no fishing or Hunting gear. Maybe some shoes, cleats, under armor, free weight equipment, or ??  Hope the price is right.
