Well I arrived at Basalt 7:30 am I saw two trucks in the lower parking lot from the pay station above I got the radio out tuned to channel 69 and called out with no responce from anyone so I waited there till 8:15 am nobody showed up. :smt011
So I fired up the Tahoe and went to the forebay thinking Mooch might have gone there. I saw him on Thursday night we thought that could be an option if the weather was bad. So I started at South Beach and went thru all the parking lots and side roads up to check 12 parking lot and nobody was there either. :smt013 I went back to Basalt paid the iron ranger my parking fee and proceded to the ramp. And nobody was there still. :smt012 Its getting on to 10:00 o'clock at this point and I needed to eat a snack. While I am snacking a small pick up pulls in to the parking lot so I get happy. :smt003 I notice no kayak I say to myself $hit. Ends up being a member, Harry and he is between boats right now. So he and I talk a while he tells me Great Bass two went home. He some how I missed him he must have came by when I was at the forebay looking for the others. Its now 10:15 am and Rick is on the way from Fresno. He shows up its now about 11:00 am we chitchat awhile and we go fish. I have fished the body of water quite a bit from my bass boat and you can usually pick up a fish or two. I trolled I jigged I casted we marked lots of fish on one point and got nothing then Harry yells fish on. He had landed an American shad on a fly. Rick and I paddle to him but before Rick could take a picture Harry released it. Well we saw a fish and this gets a person excited. After trying trolling, jigging, and casting lures with no responce I broke out the live minnows as my last resort. :smt002 This normally will get a fish, stripers love minnows. Not these stripers. Not today I dragged this minnow almost all the way back to the ramp and he was not missing one scale. :smt011 Mooch you should really show up to your own party. The water was flat we had a little fog and very little rain. GB2 wished you would have stayed kind of wanted to fish with you. Always want to meet another bass man. Rick and harry I really enjoyed your company. Rick let me paddle a new composite material kayak it is a way cool yak. Rick you got my number if you want to do a Delta date call me.

See ya on the water
Kevin

Yeah :smt011 I apologize about that....the phone number (for the conditions) was busy all morning. And it was rainning HARD when I got up in the morning. I did get a call from Rickey that morning and he was telling me how clam it was  :smt013 I shoulda woulda but I didn't  :smt011 I ended up hanging out at the FW for half the day....playing with all the gloomis rods and avet reels that I can't afford  :smt011

What happen to the Shimano Trevela Jigging rod and Accurate reel? You should see the Boss 870 two speed twin drag from Accurate maybe at the Fred Hall show? I here its better then the Avet but not as inexpensive. But you would save on the Trevela over the Gloomis.

Kevin -

Sorry about the mix up. I was at basalt at 7 AM when I picked up the mission abort from Joel on my handheld wireless device. Conditions weren't bad but I have only fished the forebay and didn't want to go out solo on the big water and didn't want to wait for Rickey to show up. I am sure next time we will hook up. I may go out on Saturday. Sunday I will be at the Joel's AOTY presentation.

Hey Kevin,  It was a good day on the water. Next time  I'm bringing Shad flies as well.
A thought I've had since then was that most of the fish we marked were American Shad.
School of stripers will herd  baitfish into coves and then feed.San Luis has bigger schools of stripers then most, and I'm not talking numbers. My thought is that we should have gone out to deeper water instead of going right although with the thick fog, staying close to shore was the safe thing to do.
You'll be hearing from me about a Detal trip.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.
