A couple of years ago, I fished american shad at American river thanks to Mr. Matt. Since then, I always want to do more shad fishing, but the long distance to American and Sacremento river prevented me from going there. I just read somewhere that San Luis Reservoir is also good for shad fishing. Is it true? I thought American shads are supposed to swim back from ocean, how can they end up in a reservoir? Do they taste the same from the reservoir?  Any info on where and how to fish for them in San Luis Reservoir? Thanks in advance.

This is a pic off of fb from yesterday.i don't know which area they were fishinh at and don't really know the guy so I couldn't ask him
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

The Sac has Shad in it.
Not so much the American yet.
The temp is 56 in the AR. Still a lil chilly.

I was with a group from NCKA about 7 years ago and we landed a few shad at San Luis Res. I can confirm they are there. They were all caught on striper flies, Clouser and deceivers flies.

I'd love to get in on a American River shad hookup, especially with Matt "the shad whisperer." Post one up when it's time!

Lol. No beer necessary. Don't drink.
Just bring an empty cooler for the Shad you take home.
