so I just ordered a okuma slv diecast5/6 . I haven't really had the cash lately but I got a Amazon gift card from my work so I figured I'd put it to good use . Recently picked up a lefty keep 9ft 5 weight on eBay for 100 bucks ( I think it was a good deal?) once the reel gets here I'll have to get some line on it and learn how to cast, it's like I'm learning how to fish  all over again ! I feel like a total kook , there is all sorts of rad casts you can do, float lines, sinking lines, knots I've never even heard of. I've been obsessing watching YouTube videos like crazy, so once it gets here I'll keep the post going and probably be hitting you guys up for some pointers,👍🏽 thanks

I've fly fished and guided in the sierras, Uintas, and Missoula that's a great starter setup.. I would recommend getting good line and not cheaping out, I have brand new 5 wt rio perception still in the box and backing too if hook you up with... Not to mention if you want to go throw some bugs one weekend I'd be glad to show you around and teach you some tricks, id suggest getting a backup spool for the SLV so you can have both floating and sinking lines... And investing in flouro tippet... 1x, 4x and 5x... Since you are in seaside I pass by all the time on the way to SWS or big sur.. So I'm sure we can meet up, the perception is the best line money can buy right now.. Other then th is school trusty rio gold... Anyways for a setup (rod reel and line) for under $300 is great.. My rods alone are $900+ just for the rod.. (Not what I pay, but retail  :smt002 )

Anyways welcome to one of the most addicting expensive ways to fish out there... Wait until you tie your flies and catch fish on them, that is something special!!!

Btw I am a Sage, Rio, Simms and Ross guy... It all depends on what I'm targeting before I choose length, weight and flies.. But a 9ft 5wt is a killer start and the SLV is not a bad reel for under $100
