Can anyone recommend a place that does kayak repairs?  Preferably around Sunnyvale but I'm also willing to travel.   My rudder cable snapped today and I'm hoping I can get it fixed for this weekend. Any recommendations appreciated.

Just rudder cable? You can buy it at OSH or home depot. Pretty easy to replace.

My fat arm doesn't fit in the hatch to reach the cable. Lol.  Unless I'm doing something wrong.

If you're more inclined to hire someone, you're not to far from CCK in San Carlos; maybe give them a call to see if they can help you out.

It's hard to say what to do about yours without having a look, but rudders aren't rocket surgery. Usually there is a tube running the length of the kayak inside the hull that the cable rides in, meaning that you shouldn't have to get inside the hatch to fish both ends of the broken cable out. At that point it's a matter of finding a suitable cable (I used a shimano tandem bike shifter cable), trimming to length and swedging or crimping the end. Or you could just pay someone.

Headwaters in Lodi might be able to help you too.

I'd be glad to help with the rudder repair.. You can get the cable at west marine too.. I'm in Santa Cruz, what kayak do you own? You can pm me I'll send you my number if you are ok with coming to SC

Also! Make sure that whatever cable you end up using is suitable for a marine environment. There is plenty of useless 1/16 galvanized wire rope for sale at home improvement places that look like they will work but will eventually rust and fail.

Thanks for the offer and all the advice. A friend close by told me he can help but I really appreciate the offer. Hope to see you out there this weekend. Oh and it's a trident 4.3 ultra. Feeding the wire can be a bit of a pain.
