I hope to finally get out on Fri, but was wondering if anyone here has modded their promar tr102w's to comply with new crabbing regs?  I'm not sure if it can be done, or should I just retire the promars and go with rings?

Talking about the requirement for cotton rotting, allowing escape from derelict traps.  I understand the concept but am not visualizing it.

I have the same traps and am visualizing how to make it so the large middle section is what opens up when the cotton gives way.

It would provide a greater opening than what is required.

So take off the metal clips and just tie it closed with cotton?  That would work I guess but I seem to recall a LOT of pressure on those 4 clips.

That's something to work on but the new reg doesn't take effect until Aug. 1, 2016.

"By August 1, 2016,crab traps will be required to have a destruct device, must be marked with the GO ID number of the operator of the trap and may not be used during the seven days prior to the opening of the Dungeness crab season (Oct. 29, 2016 through Nov. 4, 2016)."

Cheers,
Brad
