Green pool noodle float.
100ft Yellow line.
Promar TR-102W.
60fow.
They must be loaded with big crabs. You can keep them, I just need gears back.

They are lost due to rip current yesterday.
I found 1, at exact same spot in GPS.
Lesson learned. No more pool noodle, will only use hard float from now on.

Curious why you went out so deep? Were you striking out in closer?

I've had great luck at Muir just outside the breakers in 10-30 FOW.

And good call on scrapping the pool noodle idea. Once they're waterlogged and floating just below the surface, they become a navigational hazard for power boaters.

I was trolling for salmon(just in case salmon like my present) and thought of dropping out there. Not even a scratch bait.

After dropping traps, and I still saw them later 20mins. When the rip current came, all went under.
By the way, the drift was 1.2mph when I stop paddling.

Did you put weight in them? Could have walked off in the current

The one trap I found was at the exact same area according to my GPS.
I guess they are still out there, that whole area is 60fow.

sorry to hear about the loss of your pots; but adding more flotation is not necessarily the correct action.. If your pot is not heavy enough to hold down the float in strong swells, you pot will walk...

Its better to have more weight in the pot and let the bouy duck-dive under the swells; at least you pot will still be in the original location...

For me, I actually had a great turn of luck for 2 missing pots of mine, fellow Coastsiders actually recovered them after being MIA for 3 years; and relatively in the same general location....

Go back and do a SAR on a low tide, and you might get lucky!!

Yeah, I have my # on the traps.
I actually saw them on my FF at the exact area on GPS before I left. I did try to snag the line with salmon ball, but no luck.

I truely believe the traps were not moving(at least yesterday).
The only thing I did wrong was having poodle as a float at that area.
HMB is probably OK to use poodle noodle.

i don't think the pool noodles are the problem. I have been using them for years all up and down the coast including muir. I have had all kinds of problems but it was never the noodle. Do you leave enough extra slack on the line? i usually leave at least 18' of extra slack after the pot hits the bottom. Are you using braided nylon line that floats or are you using lead-core line? I use nylon. I also glue a piece of wood dowel in the center of the noodle to give it rigidity and added buoyancy.
