Anyone interested in a trans-bay trip?  I would want to troll for salmon while over the Soquel hole.

THAT IS A LONG PADDLE!!

If you went harbor to harbor in a straight line, cutting accross the outer bay, its 22 nautical miles (25+ statute miles).

If you stayed inside the bay, my guess is probably somewhere around 30 nautical miles.  Safer, but longer.

Before you guys try that "marathon", I'd do a mini, like say SC to the smoke stacks.  Thats still a hell of a long haul, plus there would be more PB's around in the event of trouble.

Make sure the wind and currents are going the way you want to go.  They seem to go one way or the other, but not guranteed which way.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Found that on eyeyak.  I'd be game for later this summer when I'm better conditioned.  I've been doing short 5 mile paddles at the lake a couple times a week, a few more months and I may be ready to rock.

I figure it to be an all day paddle.  At 3MPH it should be 8 hours+. I expect to spend 10-12 hours out there.  I've gone out 7 miles to the hole, fished and was back at SC around 3:00.  A straight paddle should get me 14 miles by 12:00 or 1:00, then just a few more miles after that.  :)
