Notes of note

Predation victims: In a stunner, scientists found 60 tags from juvenile coho salmon and steelhead at Ano Nuevo State Reserve, the result of gulls raiding the young fish on coastal streams, eating and then digesting out the tags.

Crazy story of week: In Alaska last week, a bald eagle tried to fly off with a deer head but crashed into power lines and knocked out electricity in Juneau for 10,000 residents.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I read that about the tags found at Ano too.The biologists were saying that some of those fish were 12"+.I would never have guessed seagulls would prey on fish so large.I was wondering if perhaps harbor seals or sea lions just ate out the bellies and the birds ingested the tags when they finished off the scraps, but it appears that the gulls are doing this with some regularity.Seems like a lot of money to end up as sea gull chow, but that's nature!
