Forecast calls for winds of 8-12MPH (10 knots) MPH today.. Planning to make a trip within the bay. I have all my proper safety gear but was wondering if it will be a hassle to handle my yak and fish without having to fight the wind ?

Wind direction?
Location of launch with local currents?
Tide swing and direction?

Are you going with anyone?

Should be somewhat protected from winds .. Alameda rockwall, fast moving outgoing tide, 8-12 mile winds North. Going solo but will be maybe 100 yards from the rockwall itself

What kind of fishing will you be doing? Trolling in the wind has it's own issues. Working an area with a lure while the wind or tide prevents you from staying near the structure you are trying to fish can be difficult. Wind waves can be a problem especially when the wind is opposite from the current. Then of course there is the chance that the wind will be worse than the forecast and cause several different possible safety issues.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

You won't know until you go.
Paddler, Kayak type and your stamina make all the different.
If you have a slow/fat kayak, it is worse.

I used to stay home whenever I see anything over 12mph.
Now I still go out on higher wind forecast because I can paddle against gust for longer time. Just my $0.02

The Beaufort Scale is a good resource here. Take a look and you'll get a feel for how the conditions will feel at different sustained wind speeds. Note that this scale is for open open conditions (large fetch).
