Shag Slough/Liberty Island

Shag Slough and Liberty Island is a little off the beaten path and people often ask how to get there. I thought I would post it up so I can refer people here if they want directions.

Park on the water side of the levee road. Wheel across the bridge and under the gate. Turn left around the guard rail and launch into shag slough. See the star on the bottom photo.

If you want to cross Liberty island continue straight after the gate and the launch is on the left. If you have the area loaded into google maps before you arrive it shows your path in satellite mode. The easiest path is traced in red. I try to cross when the tide is half way up. If the tide is falling you could end up stuck for 6 hours. Once you make it into open water you can cross to Prospect Slough, head south and back over to Shag Slough or continue south all the way to Cache Slough.
