Me and Anita met Allen aka scallen at the beach for a few hours, no love on the hooks, but we had a great time, so much life, and hand-caught a few bait-sized eels under the rocks, next time we slay 'em Allen!
PS Thanx for setting me up A!

Thanks for the report and cool tidepool pics.  Brings back fond memories of ab dives and shell hunts at and near Pigeon in the early 90's.   I can see it being a hard place to fish from the rocks - gradual dropoff of bedrock out front.  :smt001

Great pix Ben!  I remember that sun star with the one short arm.

I've heard such good reports of pokepling Pigeon for so many years, kinda surprised we got no more that a couple hits.

There's gotta be a secret.  Research is on.

The funnest part of the day was when we put the poles down and started turning over rocks.  those little eels were so cute!

Also love the water camera.  that thing is awesome.

Great to hang with you and Anita, hopefully the first of many such days.

Allen

ps:  I should have done the Masai warrior pose with that pokepole.

We did a parallel trip to Point Pinos on Sunday.  The waves and surge was bigger than I would have liked but I did poke up one small 6-7-inch rockfish that was released.  The sky was blue and clear with large cumulous clouds.  The water was also clear but the swell kept me from getting to the best spots.  All in all a good time.  Natalie mostly scoured the beach for sea glass.  We also forgot the camera.

Those little "eels" are called gunnels, hard to tell what species from the picture, might be a penpoint gunnel.  Definitely cool little fish.  They come in all colors and get to be like 6 inches.  Never thought about it, but probably would be good live bait.

Ben/Allen: Great pictures. I got all geared up last year to poke pole but have not yet tried it. Would love to join you experienced guys someday to learn the ropes.
