Thus far I have only fished OFB from shore with a 10 foot surf Rod. I'm looking for recommendations for something to use from the kayak. I plan on trolling, using lures and Live minnows, and drop shotting cut bait from time to time. It would also be great if I could use the same set up trolling for trout, but not an absolute necessity.

Santa brought me a few bass pro gift cards and I'm looking for recommendations on what to use them on. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

-Brian

I have a Bass Pro Shop Extreme spinning rod in the 7 foot, medium-action class that I use for ripping plugs for trout, and I used it to catch a bunch of stripers up to 15+ pounds last month.  It's paired with a Shimano Sedona 2500 loaded with 10 pound PowerPro.  I've fished it for close to a year now and so far no complaints.  It has the backbone to play good-sized stripers yet isn't too bulky for trout.  I pasted the link to the rod below.

For stripers other than the surf any good bass rod and reel will work well.

Bass Pro! I just picked up a 7' ugly stick rod n reel package for $49.95. Its a med heavy spinning rod and works well for stripers and coastal kayaking.

finally settled on a 7' M Ugly Stick GX2 with a 2500 Penn Battle 2. The reel will arrive today, hoping for a decent balance.

+1 I have way, way, way to many high dollar rods and reels, but for striper I seem to always go back to my Ugly Sticks, and Ugly Stick lites.  I have a 7' Medium Action Ugly Stick baitcasting rod that is limber enough to troll for trout, or handle striper of pretty good size.  Like with most rods, try and handle it in person.....the actions are not consistent when you move from brand to brand, and a lot of times even model to model of the same brand.  Good luck
