plenty of crabs there but never launched a kayak in the surf there always looked a bit brutal. drop crab pots there on way to TC on PB for rock fishing and always fared well. mile or to South of goat rock is much easier large for yak if you don't mind packing up and down staircase with all your gear did quite a bit of Yak salmon fishing in the early 90's.
you do realize crab season closed.

There is a marine preserve outside the mouth but you can go south a little ways for crab and north a little ways for rockfish. Boundries for preserve are shown on a map posted on a big sign at the jenner boat ramp.

Tough spot to launch/land with pots on deck especially with winter south swells. Occasionally the mouth of the river is flat enough to go out on high tides but low tides combined with river outflow are problematic. South side of Goat Rock is one launch spot and also the north side next to Goat Rock. Both require a calm sea and both involve effort to get the yak to a launch spot. Scotty Creek/Gleasons Beach is a better bet if surf permits. Head north to Duncans Landing. Fair amount of crab there.

I have humped my gear down the path at Carmanet, just south of Jenner, on a super calm day. Half mile paddle out to sandy bottom and 100' depth. Crabs there when open.
