Yeah, the declining water table is a big issue. A few neighbors up the hill from my folks house have had to drill deeper wells recently. Luckily our family well is still producing.

I'm pretty retentive about turning off lights & stuff now.

timers can really help. I have a neighbor who has them on 2 refrigerators as well as any exhaust fans (like in the bathroom & kitchen) and they really work. I was amazed at the numbers comparison. I'll probably go this route eventually to save some juice.

My house is about the same size and uses propane water heater, stove/oven, and dryer. Our electric bill is about $35/month including our 1/3 of the shared well bill.
the main electricity users are the fridge and the water system (booster pump & pressure tank).

My propane cost is about $100/month so it kind of evens out to what you are spending.
